A. (H?) Yeramian
1890 - 1900s
Hardly anything is known regarding A. Yeramian’s biography. On the backstamp of the only photograph that is known to us, the photographer’s location is not mentioned. The large house of Yeramians originates from the region of Van, where the Yerhamian private college operated in the early 20th century. Judging from the dresses of the photographed subjects and the poorly dressed pavilion, it is likely that the photographer worked in one of the eastern provinces of the Ottoman Empire. The photo is made in haste – probably in a mobile pavilion. Despite its amateurish execution, Yeramian's photograph is a culturally significant visual document that represents an Armenian family of a high ranking, in the process of Westernisation.
