Smbat M. Tosunyan
1900 - 1910s
M. Tosunyan's studio operated for around a decade, at the beginning of the 20th century. All theknown photographs from this establishment are carte de visite and cabinet portraits and it is unlikely that Tosunyan made any other type of images. A large part of these surviving images depict the officers of Kars’ Russian military base and their families. Tosunyan’s photographs are schematic in their compositional and lighting solutions and they are primarily of memorial value. Judging by the information on the photographer’s seal, Tosunyan spent some time in St. Petersburg. No other biographical details about the photographer have come to light.
