O. Tashdjian
1890 - 1910s
A. Mnekoryan's studio focused on the production of high-quality commercial portraiture. His portraits are often quite ceremonial, enclosed in large-size cardboard frames and were intended for exhibiting in living rooms. The Tbilisians of the 1920s and 1930s depicted in these photographs are fashionably dressed and still bear the faded glow of this cosmopolitan city’s bourgeois culture, elements of which are surreptitiously recorded by Mnekoryan’s camera.
