V & A Suakiasov
1870 - 1880s
Examples of photographs produced at the studio of Sukiasov family of photographers in Tiflis are rare and no bibliographical or archival traces regarding these Armenian photographers have been discovered. Making assumptions regarding their work based on the few photographs that have reached us is difficult. They are mostly conventional portraits of workers, peasants, and people of the lower-middle classes. The direct simplicity of these images has made the visages of these mostly anonymous and ordinary individuals more expressive with time and Sukiasovs’ portraits are undoubtedly valuable as material for cultural and ethnographic studies.
