Eduard Starostov
1970 - 1990s
For many years, Starostov worked in Armenia as a photojournalist, corresponding with almost all of the Republic’s newspapers and periodicals. He has documented many of the key events in the country’s history during the last three decades of the 20th Century. Most notable among these reportages are Starostov’s extensive documentation of Yerevan’s subway construction process, the independence movement of 1988-90, the 1988 Spitak earthquake and the war in Karabagh. Retiring from active reportage work in the early 1990s, Starostov also left photography for good and was seen selling vintage prints from his extensive archive at the open-air Vernisage market in Yerevan, shortly before his death.
