Artavazd Sirakanyan
1970 - 1990s
Sirakanyan’s photographic activity was of semi-professional character. He took part in various republican amateur photography exhibitions with his documentary photographs and regularly printed his photo-reportages about Kirovakan in the city’s local newspapers. Many of these photographs were later assembled in an album-guide on Kirovakan published in 1989. Illustrating the daily life of the city, Sirakanyan’s colour slides admiringly depict the cultural events, industrial plants and the picturesque sights of Armenia’s third-largest urban centre. These images are of significant historic value today as a documentary representation of everyday lifestyle, culture and social interactions in late-Soviet era Armenia.
