Raphael Nazareth
1850 - 1860s
Located in the Bera district of Constantinople, this photographic studio was one of the oldest in the city. It opened sometime around 1859, not long after the establishment of the Abdulahian Frères studio in the same area. Nazareth's studio did not sustain in the competition for very long and was shut down in the early 1860s. According to Bahattin Ötuncay, Nazareth came to work for the Abdullah Frères, where he was employed for many years as a retoucher. Very few examples of his own photography have reached our days.
