Sarkis Mansourian
1910 - 1920s
In comparison with other, larger settlements in Egypt, there were very few photography studios at the beginning of the 20th centuryin the east-Egyptian city of Kena, which was located on the banks of the Nile River. One of the most important and well-furnished of these establishments belonged to Sargis Mansourian. Biographical details about the photographer have not reached us. It is only known that Mansourian’s pavilion operated during the 1910-20s. His studio portraits do not possess distinctive features and utilised the widely practiced conventions of commercial portraiture of that period. The majority of the photographer's clients were from the middle and upper-classes of Kena’s mostly Arab population.
