Hamazasp Mamikonyants

Mamikonyants' photography studio was located at Royter's trading house, on the Golovskoye Avenue in Tiflis. It appears that it was one of the first photographic establishments in this city. Surviving photographs bearing Mamikonyants’ seal date from the 1860s-70s. They mainly represent individuals from the rich, merchant or governmental elites of Tiflis, since during this period, photography was mostly the domain of the local bourgeoisie. Mamikonyants’ lavishly furnished pavilion is a clear sign of the photographer's commercial success and his masterfully made portraits demonstrate his refined aesthetic sensibility. Factual details regarding the photographer’s life and the fate of his studio remain unknown.
