P. Hekimian
1860 - 1870s
We have yet to find any details about the Constantinople-based Hekimian’s biography. As can be deduced from the very few of his surviving photographs, his studio operated from the mid 1860s to the 1870s. Like most photographers working in this city at the time, Hekimian specialized in studio portraiture and works made in other genres have not reached us. The individuals shown in his portraits are mostly men from Istanbul’s middle classes. Hekimian aimed for simple and fast results, providing his clients unembellished carte de visite photographs, which were used primarily for business and personal purposes. The relatively small size of Hekimian's output suggests that he did not last long in the trade dominated by many more famous competitors and had already closed his studio by the end of the 1870s.
