Tigran Hayrapetyan
born 1977
2000 - 2010s
Tigran Hayrapetian lives and works in Yerevan where he has been heading the ‘Matit’ design and photography studio for over ten years. Outside his work in fashion and advertising, Hayrapetyan’s practice is engaged with current trends of topographic photography. Employing large and medium format analogue cameras, Hayrapetian imbues his photographs with dense layers of detail and tone, making them at once hyper-real and otherworldly. His images often focus on agricultural landscapes and industrial ruins. In either case, the photographs depict the often conflicting ways nature and human civilisation relate to and transform each other. Trained as a designer, Hayrapetyan’s work often reveals the aesthetic dimension of spaces and objects no longer relevant to society.
