Hovhannes Sergeyi Ghayfadjyan
1920 - ?
1970 - 1980s
Hovhannes Ghayfadjyan was a correspondent of Garun (Spring) journal and other Soviet-Armenian periodicals between the 1960s-80s. He came to photography at a late stage, having entered into the photo-cine department of Armenia's State Archive in 1960 as a photographer. Some ten years later, in 1971 Ghayfanajyan became a member of the USSR Union of Journalists and was also one of the more active members of 'Yerevan' photo-club. (1)
His published photographs are primarily documentary reportages as well as black and white pastoral studies depicting Armenia's villages and natural landscape. Made with schematic compositional solutions Ghayfadjyan’s photographs attempted to convey a rather idealized image of the country’s rural life. The photographer went into retirement in 1985.
