Volodyan Badalyan
1970 - 1980s
Radio–engineer by profession Volodya Badalyan worked as the head of photo-laboratory of Orbita factory between 1969-1995. (1) Along with scientific and technical photography, he has made individual experiments in documentary and art photography. Some these works have been published in Armenian magazines like ‘Gitutyun ev Tekhnika’ (‘Science and Technology’), ‘Garun’ [‘Spring’] and ‘Sovetakan Hayastan’ [‘Soviet Armenia’]. These are primarily photographic sketches of landscapes and portraits made in a mode of lyrical-romantic photography that was widespread in Armenia during the 1970s-80s. The limited number of such published images does not allow us to form an overarching idea of this photographer’s overall creative trajectory.
Badalyan continued to work in photography until the early 2000s. He is the father of photo–journalist Hayk Badalyan.
