H. A. Azatyan
1890 - 1900s
Azatyan is one of the first Armenian photographers to have been based in Athens. His ‘Ararat’ studio was the favoured pavilion of the local Armenian community at the end of the 19th century. The photographer's portraits do not stand out with their artistic qualities or technical skill, but they often hint at Azatyan's uninhibited and witty personality. Quite worthy of note is the photographer's backstamp illustration, which depicts the Noah's ark at the top of Ararat Mountain with an allegorical muse of the arts seated in the foreground. We have been unable to located concrete biographical facts about the photographer.
