(Andranik?) Antro
1960 - 1970s
Antro’s practice is related to the period of general decline amidst Cairo's commercial, Armenia photo-studio networks. By the beginning of the 1970's, most of the major Armenian photographers of the city had emigrated, passed away, retired or had sold their studios. However, Antro’s portraits perfectly reflect their time through the clothes and the more relaxed body language of his sitters. They have a lighter, more modern sensibility and are notable for their lack of forced theatrical effects. Unfortunately, the photographer’s biographical details have not been discovered.
