Mkrtich Adamyan repatriated to Armenia with his family, in 1946. He began practising photography in the early 1950s as an assistant working with other photographers from the Armenian Diaspora and later, in 1956 as one of the staff photographers at Hayfilm Studio. Adamyan is a master of film still photography and has worked on more than seven full-length films. He has also been involved in education, having directed a photoclub at the Al. Myasnikyan Public Library in Yerevan.
