Levon Tigran Abgaryan
1905 - 1967
1930 - 1960s
Levon Abgaryan was educated at the English College in Isfahan, thereafter entering into employment at the National Bank of Iran.
His photo studio ‘Levon’ was opened in the New Djulfa Armenian district of Isfahan in 1935, later moving to the more central area of the city. Abgaryan was one of the active figures in Djulfa’s Armenian community and created a range of series depicting Iranian-Armenian life and culture. Unfortunately, after shutting down his studio in 1964, the photographer handed over his entire photography archive to a neighbouring photographer, which led to its complete destruction several years later.
