Biographical details about the Armenian proprietor of ‘Studio Azad’ have not been found. The studio was located on Rue Fardous in Damascus and was probably established sometime in the 1940s. It was still in operation in 1963 as it is listed in Sayed Souheil’s Le Guide Arabe Pour le Commerce directory.(1) 

All of the known images carrying Azad’s studio stamp are conventionally floodlit studio portraits.
